Meet Washington’s first wheat breeder, undefeated football coach

It makes sense that Washington State University’s agronomy farm is named after William Jasper Spillman — the first wheat breeder at the college.

“He was an agronomist and agricultural economist,” said Kimberly Garland-Campbell, USDA Agricultural Research Service research plant geneticist and club wheat breeder. “He wanted to figure out how to make farming more profitable.” Read the rest of the article here.
