Crop progress report 10/27: Freezing temperatures in Washington

There were 6.1 days suitable for fieldwork in Washington, down from 6.5 days the previous week. Northwest Washington had a lot of rainfall last week. In Skagit and Whatcom counties, standing water in the fields made corn harvest difficult. Southwest Washington received some rain, but it was dry enough for cattle to continue grazing pastures. In central Washington, conditions remained dry, with cattle moving home from the mountains. Residue fields were being grazed with supplemental feed provided. In northeast Washington, the weather started cooling, and a few areas of frost were reported. Most cattle were off pastures, and fall crops had mostly emerged. In Franklin County, apple and corn harvests continued. The last of the fourth cutting of hay was being stacked. Tillage for cover crops was ongoing after potato harvest concluded. East central Washington had sparse precipitation.
