Crop progress report 0624: Washington cherries, berries flourished while crop farms encountered temperamental rain, heat

From NASS There were 6.2 days suitable for field work last week. Pasture and range conditions were reported at 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 16 percent fair, 73 percent good and 7 percent excellent. A low temperature of 46 degrees F was reported in the northeast region, while a high temperature of 96 degrees F was reported in the southeast region. Statewide temperature differential ranged between 3 and 10 degrees above normal. Clallam County was still too wet to plant, but Snohomish County had hot weather and drying topsoil. Corn was waist-high, and hay had good growth from previous precipitation. Strawberry harvest was winding down, and raspberry harvest was ramping up in Whatcom County. San Juan County was also drying out. Livestock depleted pastures. Berry crops were ripening and CSA farms were in full flush. Kiwifruit were progressing through blooming and fruit setting. Skagit County was also dry. The wheat crop in Chelan and Douglas counties was progressing well. Cherry harvest began. Some pear growers found fire blight in their trees. Central Washington remained dry. Winter wheat turned golden in Klickitat County. The heavy rain and hail storms in northeast Washington did not damage crops. Hay cutting slowed, but quality remained high. Beans continued to be planted in Franklin County. Cherry harvest continued. Alfalfa hay was in various stages of windrows, bales and stacks. Lincoln County reported some frost damage on the potato crop due to the temperatures on June 11. Spring wheat had some rain damage. Winter wheat was in good condition. The cooler temperatures in Adams County led to late crop plantings. The Palouse was still spraying crops and cutting hay.
